Nearly seven months have passed since developer David Hunt unveiled plans for a Courtyard by Marriott in Columbia.
The $5 million project would include three new restaurants, a retail center and possibly a Publix supermarket on the 14-acre site of the former Polk Hotel at the corner of Nashville Highway and Bear Creek Pike.
Despite fanfare, there’s been no visible evidence of progress. The old, dilapidated motel, doughnut shop and title loan building have not been demolished. No trucks have been bringing in dirt to level the site for construction.
